SITE NAME: MOUNT BLACKHEATH
HGFA CLUB: BLUE MOUNTAINS HANG GLIDING CLUB INC.

CLUB RULES:

  • All pilots must be current HGFA members. 
  • Visiting pilots welcome. 
  • A site breifing must be obtained from a BMHGC safety officer before flying.
  • Please follow all restrictions as listed in this site guide and as requested by SO or duty pilots on the day.
  • The pilot launching is responsible to ensure that there are no spectators or members of the public interfering with their launch. Do not hesitate to politely talk to people if they are in the way.

SITE LOCATION: Mount Blackheath, at the end of Mount Blackheath Road.

  • Approx 7km from Blackheath by road. 
  • Coordinates: S 33.64373, E 150.24487. 
  • LZ is located on private property.

ACCEPTABLE WIND
Direction: WSW - WNW
Strength: HG < 15 knots, PG < 15 knots

LAUNCH
Description: Astro turf PG launch & metal HG ramp
Hazards: Cannot see landing from launch, Turbulence in NW wind

LANDING AREAS
Primary: Kanimbla Valley. S 33.63226, E 150.25574. This is a large square paddock. Horses and cattle sometimes present. Please do not land in the triangle shaped paddock with the road through it.
Alternate: Emergency only to North of Potters Cottage. Land away from horses and riders.
Top landing: Yes, on astro turf only for PG. No for HG.
X-C: Good potential to West and North

REQUIRED RATING AND SUITABLE CONDITIONS

  • HG Restricted Certificate: Conditions: 5 - 10 knots with strict SO supervision
  • HG Intermediate Certificate: Conditions: 5 - 15 knots with SO supervision
  • HG Advanced: Conditions: < 15 knots
  • PG2 & PG3 Certificates: Conditions: 2 - 10 knots with strict SO supervision
  • PG4 Certificate: Conditions: 0 - 10 knots with SO supervision
  • PG5 Certificate: Conditions: < 15 knots


HAZARDS - SPECIAL CONDITIONS - BRIEFING REQUIREMENTS

  • Landing is not visible from launch although it is easily attainable from launch height.
  • HG Restricted, HG Intermediate, PG2, PG3, PG4 do not fly to South of launch if below launch height.
  • Wind can go katabatic in landing area in late afternoon.
  • Wind can increase in strength and or change direction without warning.
  • Do not land in any of the paddocks surrounding the green shed to North West of launch.
  • Beware of seabreeze and convergence conditions in Spring, Summer and Autumn.
  • Do not land near horses 
  • Power lines to north of LZ.
  • Turbulence in LZ in strong wind.
